Health NZ Waitemata - North Shore Hospital Heat Pump Integration Project - Main Contractor - refer attachment
North Shore Hospital has identified an opportunity to install high-temperature heat pumps to provide all duty heating for the heating hot water (HHW) circuit which is maintained at ~80 °C. This is intended to fully offset the load on the existing natural gas-fired hot water boilers, eliminating the natural gas use and associated emissions of these hot water boilers, and reducing net energy costs for the hospital. The existing hot water boilers are approaching end-of-life and are intended to be retired once the heat pumps are operational and performance is proven. The Chilled water chillers have also been identified as approaching end of life presenting the opportunity for both systems to be replaced (partially or as a whole).
Proposals for a turn-key scope will be sought from suitable parties to deliver this multidisciplinary, brownfield integration project at a working hospital. Safety considerations for the construction, commissioning and operation of these heat pumps and related systems will need to be carefully planned, as this is a functioning hospital environment.
This project will involve a new high-temperature heat pump system, tie-ins to existing infrastructure for electric power, condenser/chilled water piping and heating hot water piping, and all associated connections, instruments and controls to allow the system to function safely and as intended. The respondent is free to suggest air-source, lake-source, and/or cascade heat pump systems to meet the required duties.
Alternate design proposals are permitted, provided they meet all minimum technical and performance requirements. This flexibility encourages innovative or more efficient solutions, so long as standards and compatibility with existing operations are maintained.
