This Request for Tender (RFT) is for the streetscape upgrade of the intersection of Birkenhead Avenue, Mokoia Road, and Hinemoa Street (known as Highbury Corner) in the Birkenhead Town Centre. This is Stage 2 of the Mainstreet Upgrade project (the project), the first stage having been undertaken in 2016. The project is Auckland Council (AC) initiated and led and seeks to provide improved pedestrian precincts within the town center by increasing the extent and improving the quality of the existing street environment, providing improved pedestrian access in the form of footpaths and pedestrian crossings, and reducing driver speed. Implementation of the project is by Auckland Transport (AT). Because of the location of the project at the intersection of busy roads in a town centre, the work will entail careful planning and execution with the main issues being staging of the works, efficient traffic management, and close liaison with local businesses during the period of construction.
