Auckland Public Transport Ferry Operator Services Western Package - Market Update

The purpose of this market update is to communicate Auckland Transport’s intention to undertake a single stage procurement for ferry services between the Downtown Ferry Terminal and the following terminal locations (collectively the Western Package):

• Birkenhead and Te Onewa Northcote Point
• West Harbour
• Rakino Island

The purpose of this market update is to communicate Auckland Transport’s intention to undertake a single stage procurement for ferry services between the Downtown Ferry Terminal and the following terminal locations (collectively the Western Package):

• Bayswater
• Birkenhead and Te Onewa Northcote Point

• Rakino Island

It is anticipated that the RFP will be released at end of April 2025 and culminate in the award of a single contract term of 7 years commencing mid-2027, with the potential for a 2-year renewal.
Auckland Transport is seeking a ferry operator who can contribute their capability and experience to the provision of public transport ferry passenger services that contribute to the aspiration for Auckland to be the world's most liveable city as described in the Auckland Plan 2050.
The Western Package not only presents the opportunity to enable a more unified and efficient operation but should also well position the operator for future key opportunities, notably when the full ferry public transport network is expected to be tendered circa 2034.
